Thats interesting. Would you prefer him to have been more "true" to his principles and been a proper moderate liberal government rather than the doubling act thats got little done even if that would go against your own conservative views? Even if that gets a chunk of the party offside? The current way seems to get all flanks offside. On the flip side Abbott only ever led for the conservatives, ignored the moderates and it killed his popularity pretty quickly one the electorate forgot about the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd.  Seems like the party itself has got a real big divide and they lack someone to united both sides?

It would have been interesting to see Malcolm's polling if he had just told the right-wing to eff-off from the start, and followed his socially liberal heart.

As soon as he started compromising his core beliefs (and what made him popular before his ascension) he's been a dead duck both internally, and externally.

Both have very valid points.

RedKat is on the money though. Membership numbers are at an all time low for the Libs and myself included in that. But to answer your question a lot of the party believe that Menzies started a Party intended to be socially conservative and economically liberal (i believe that). These are the more older liberal members. The younger more moderate libs say nah he wanted to establish a 'sensible centre' party which i think is impossible.
Abbott and Turnbull reflect the obvious differences. Currently though no one in the libs is fit enough to be the mediator between the two sides. This is coming from a once young lib who saw it all.

And don't forget if libs say eff off to the right wing side, there goes LNP and 1/4 of the Lib MPs.

Part of me really wants this "2 Queensland" solution. Maybe Bob Katter can be swore into his dream job as "Minister of Crocodilian Defence" if the north splits off.

It might also save Origin as a concept as well.

This is turning out to be quite the day for Malcolm Turnbull.

I've seen ageing football players cling on to their tragically dwindling careers less pathetically than this.  Lucas Neill screaming "fuck off" at those hecklers was more dignified than the shit we're being dished up atm.

I bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback.

Well at least we have half an RC into banking from his spinelessness.

His position has to be untenable now, doesn't it? As said earlier, if he governed to his beliefs instead of trying to cling to power he wouldn't be in this position.

I think Julie Bishop is their best chance at the already doomed next election, might as well give her a long run to try and stem the bleeding.

I doubt she'll get up in a spill. The right wingers will ague that a more moderate member is what got them into this mess (conveniently forgetting Abbott's polling in the first place), and we'll up with PM Potato.

If the Libs are going to fulfil The Prophesy, namely that they do every horrible infighting thing which Labor did in their terms in office, then we need Toby Arnott back as PM a couple of months before the next election, so that the electorate can ceremoniously dump the horrible gurning dickbag  directly, hopefully hounding him out of Australian public life for good.

The laws of the universe demand this. We all want Tones to be on that ducking stool so we can personally send him off, not some other fucking patsy.

Strangely enough, Josh Frydenberg seems to have gone a bit quiet about this.

That $1bn detaining 1140 refugees works out to $877k each. And we are committing human rights violations in the process.

^ Great read. Ben Eltham's been in strong form lately.

The fact that he's encouraged Dutton's racism as well is another stain on Turnbull.

You know the Change the Date campaign is starting to have an impact because all the Culture Warrior conservatives have launched a massive whinge in response.

A matter of time until the date changes.

Libs have come up with another great way to improve the economy: by becoming International Arms Dealers. http://www.news.com.au/national/politics/australia-set-to-become-a-major-arms-exporter/news-story/55ac8ab157c6c6b1964e91ba43aa37de

Yes, that's the type of country we want to have.

LOL Jim Molan has also been liking racist jokes on Twitter. Going well, isn’t it?

Don’t know what’s worse: that Liberals couldn’t even do a cursory scan of his social media activity or if they did, and decided it didn’t matter.

Seems he’s more concerned that hadn’t “cleaned up” his account/social media.

Molan is going to be a real asset to the ALP - this bloke could not be more out of his depth and Turnbull's reaction was to be expected.

But Queensland MP Michelle Landry - the only Nationals MP willing to speak on the record on Sunday - defended Mr Joyce. She said she felt for Natalie Joyce and the couple's four daughters, and praised the work Ms Campion had done.

"I believe Barnaby can survive this, we are a united team, we are a big family," she said.

"My office has worked quite closely with Vikki. I've found her very dedicated to her job, she was very good at it. She did a lot for the Nationals, getting us more hands-on with the Facebook and the Twitter."

http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/barnaby-joyce-s-career-hangs-in-the-balance-20180211-p4yzy8.html

"I quite agree it is superfluous, but since it is already written, let it stand."

Turnbull defending Joyce on a technicality is both a complete stitch up and standard behaviour.

Can't wait for Barnaby to be punted this week.

Still can't believe the cheek of this bastard to say Sydney people should move to Armidale if they can't afford a house, when he's on $400K, the woman he's having an affair had a $190K job created for her, they're living in a house rent free and then all the expenses and perks he claims on top of that.

Burn it all down.

I'm praying for something to come out on Dutton.
