if fairness, that wasn't a show that anyone could do long term.....

On a similar note, can anyone confirm the vegan rumors? Someone once told me that he was vegan when not filming, but now I've heard he's only a vegan after finishing the show?

The following is a quote from Peter Dutton and this particular misuse of the English language irritates me no end.  “If people think I’ll cower or take a backwards step due to their fake news criticism they’ve got another thing coming.”

It's THINK not THING - they've got another "think" coming.  The sentence makes structural sense with the second "think" at the end of the sentence and no sense when the word "thing" is used.  Also, Peter Dutton and his racism grinds my gears too.

The amount of AFL and cricket talk that creeps onto my Twitter timeline despite how many words and hashtags I've muted.

Whoah. As much as it makes me feel ill to be in the same camp as Dutton on anything, I've honestly always thought it was "thing" and had absolutely no idea what you were going on about until I Googled it just now.

I stand corrected, but that way of using "think" as a noun makes the "correct" way sound very strange to me and it'll take some effort to change over

When newspapers report a chess game, they don't show you the final move. They show you the position ten moves from the end because that is the most dramatic situation... The moment of the goal is not particularly interesting. What happens just before the goal: that is much more interesting.

As someone who's used them they're great.

But a) There's 4 companies, so you can only use 25% of them if you only have 1 app.

b) None of them have helmets, and our Nazi police are more than likely to target you to fine you $400 if you don't have a helmet, or ride on the footpath.

c) the random dumping means that loads have been damaged.

Fark me, don't think i've ever had to suffer through worse stress than when trying to buy our house.

We find the place, offer gets accepted, we're jumping for joy etc and we start formally organising our finances (got pre-approval previously with two banks). So we have the 5 day cooling off period where we apply for the loan with UBank. All going well, until 2 days before we need to pay the deposit, UBank emails me saying my credit check has failed and they can't process the loan due to the fact that they can't verify my identity. Get this email at 10:30pm so first thought was it's a scam, but check it out and looks real. First I saw the email at 5am, so I can't actually do anything except for send emails till 9:00am while at work. I'm freaking out, calling UBank, the Credit Check company and anyone else I can think of to sort this shit out. Finally get through to the bank. It's a fuck up on their end, the loan is being processed. Almost piss myself out or relief.

Fast-forward to this week. All is looking good, solicitor is waiting for a few things from sellers end to give to UBank to finalize settlement which has been booked in for 2:30 pm on Friday. We've given our notice to landlords that we're moving out this weekend, they have another renter lined up and we're almost packed. Que a phone call from our solicitor, UBank is refusing to book in settlement as the ANZ bank, sellers bank, has misspelled "Nominee" on one of the documents. They wrote "ominee" and UBank is refusing to budge. Surely they can at least book this shit it when changing the document will take max 2 days, especially as they've said that the last day they can book in settlement is today at 4:00pm.

Wife and myself now looking at having to move into the in-laws this weekend and moving into the new place later on in the week. Unless our solicitor manages to negotiate a fee-free swap for now. If they don't accept they can be damn sure im knocking a few grand off the final price. Pricks.,.....

Left field suggestion - may be cheaper/easier than moving house twice in a few days.   Request if you can move in on the original date anyway, a few days before settlement and just pay the vendor rent for those days.

My parents have done that in the past.

If you and the vendor and everyone's solicitors can agree that this is just a bank screwup and the settlement is still going to occur but just a few days later than planned, then there should be no reason that everyone can't agree to a common sense solution.  You don't have to move house twice and the vendor gets compensated for letting you have the house early.  Everyone wins.

that's the current plan. Our solicitor is trying to organize that for us. If they refuse then we'll be asking a few grand deduction from the settlement as compensation. Fingers crossed they don't become nasty. From what our solicitor is saying, their side has been really dragging their feet in getting us all documentation that we require to complete the deal.

That sounds fucking awful. We're looking to buy at the moment...I should be put off by that sort of story but it's good to hear the worst so we can prepare. How did you find UBank to deal with?

They weren't too bad. Really strict in terms of dealing with them and really hard to get a loan. They offered the smallest amount of all the banks we dealt with but had the lowest interest rate. Commbank found out we were going with them and got involved and even they said they can't meet those rates.

Hardest part is there's no physical location so it's all over the phone or online. Another friend who's a solicitor mentioned that if you want the least hassle in settlement, go with Commbank as they are the only one of the big 4 that has an office in the city that can deal with settlement, any issues they pop back over, change, reprint and bring back

Update on the situation from yesterday:

Online system was completely down for most of the day, our bank can't access, ANZ can't access. Despite the fact that no one can access the system, UBank was still refusing to extend our date. Our solicitor did a records search and found evidence that the name had been changed and sent to UBank as proof. When solicitor finally got the documents, ANZ left our fucking names off of them this time.......

FUCKING useless CUNTS

To make it even funnier, cos these pricks have screwed up, the people we are buying from can't settle for their property as they are waiting for funds to go through from us. On top of that, the property that they are buying, the owners of that property can't settle until they get the money from the owners of our property. So potentially over $3 million upwards of cash is sitting there because one prick can't spell "Nominee"

ffs another update with the house 😛 Met my neighbour during the move (complex of 4 all in a row, he's at the end and we're next to him). Knocked on his door to let him know we'd be parked infront of his place for a few mins to unload but to let us know if we need to move. Went on for 5 mins about how removalists always use the driveway like a car park etc. but in the end was fine with it. While he was talking, I was getting physically assaulted by the smell from his place.

Fast forward 3 weeks, knock on my door. It's same guy trying to figure out if the car parked legally on the street was mine (it wasn't) as it was blocking off the spot where the bins usually go. A MINOR inconvenience. End up offering to help him move them. He then tells me he's called up council to report a dumped car and left multiple letters on his windscreen.

Get back to the house and he asks me what I thought of the previous owners, turns out he'd had some sort of a punch up with the previous guy about an easement going through the property. He was really shifty when I asked what happened but he mentioned that the previous owners were going to gain financially out of it (still not sure how as it's strata). He's still apparently waiting to hear from the cops about pressing charges..... Going to an interesting few years now

Sounds like you've found the neighbourhood weirdo. Expect years of passive aggressive notes.
