Hope anyone near the bushfires is safe / so is their property. My father lives in Alfords Point on one of the roads that the RFS is reporting a fire on... he left last night so he's safe but who knows about the property. It's just stuff ultimately but still not a great feeling. That said not like there has been any real reports of real property damage anywhere, somehow. Stay safe / don't do stupid stuff everyone

The Mrs told me not to be too worried about Southern Alberta winter, like it's never as bad as people say it is, etc etc. Snow is annoying but it's kinda pretty, you know the deal.

Worst winter in 30 years. We just had two days in a row of +15 Celsius and today it's fucking snowing again.

My folks live there too (I grew up in there) and yeah went over on Sunday to help them out and FMD it was close. Not a good feeling indeed.

Was having memories of 1994 - fucking horrible that was.

The fires were a bit of a lark really, when you've been through as many as I have it's not all that exciting.

I did manage to get rid of the wife and kids for the weekend and drink all the beer in the house - winning!

Our place is 50 metres away from a house that burnt to the ground in 1994.

That day was so fucking terrifying for 9 year old me, so I always get a little skittish around fires knocking on the door of Alfos.

(That said, yeah, sounds like a winning weekend 🙂 )

Maybe it was you who was the firebug? Bit of an extreme way to get the wife and kids out of the house though!

https://www.smh.com.au/environment/weather/sand-blasted-large-dust-storm-may-hit-sydney-ahead-of-cold-front-20180813-p4zx8d.html

Big duststorms could be on the way to Sydney:

Large dust storms that swept across western parts of NSW last week may stir again this week, and may even reach Sydney as winds pick up and temperatures rise ahead of a cold front.

Crazy storms tonight, kind of out of nowhere.
