As a Telstra subscriber I'm pretty stoked for this. The League probably should have already had it in place as it is increasingly common to consume media this way. Nevertheless, I'm all for making this more visible.

$100 a year for a non-telstra subscriber who doesn't want to pay extortionate Foxtel rates to fund AFL is a pretty good deal.

As a non-subscriber, I'm pretty stoked for this.

I'm more than happy to pay for content, I just don't want to have the right to pay for the content to be held to ransom unless I agree to spend a much higher amount for an enitrely unrelated product with their business. Optus take note!!!

If the app also supports Chromecast I'm in heaven.

Based on their other sporting apps, it will not support Chromecast, because I can't imagine Foxtel would be happy with that.

You can just do the screen mirroring with the chromecast. Not quite as good, but close.

Restrictive media apps like Foxtel Go (as distinct from Foxtel Now, which supports casting and might also be considered for next season) will typically prevent screen mirroring.

So will the Foxtel Play app still show the games or will they only be on the Telstra app?

as an aside, how many subscription services will people tolerate? There’s only so many the majority of people will be able to afford or want. Guess it will take a little bit before that shakes out.

My gut says this will be in addition to Foxtel Play, because Foxtel Play is a lot more versatile (e.g. It can be used on a Playstation 4).

Aren't Telstra's AFL and NRL versions of these kind of low qual, low res, and sort of mostly suited to mobile phones?

I don't think this is going to be a Foxtel replacement.
