Honestly don't think Popovic would do a bad job as NT coach.

Kind of cowardly, but I’m glad he’s gone.

Get Hiddink on the phone now!

Still a bit unsure how to feel about this.

I was as frustrated as anyone with some of his selections / formations, and the majority of this qualifying campaign has been garbage.  But he really could get us playing some quality football, and we were very good for the best part against Honduras.

Anyways, what are the odds the FFA has done absolutely nothing over the past ~6 weeks since it became clear he was on the out?

I bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback.

Mentally weak

I'm not sure if it is this simple.

I think he's realised that the team is pretty bad, with nothing like the talent of "The Golden Generation", and that he'll be crucified if they lose all 3 games in Russia, or even with 2 draws and a win.

He's therefore jumped whilst his stock is highest (and before the draw is out), and also when the manager merry-go-round is in full swing in both Asia, and in Europe.

Sure it makes him selfish, but it doesn't make him weak per se.

I think it's the stubbornness, he'd rather walk away now than admit he fucked the system for the last 2 years and have to change it for the World Cup if he stays on.

In years to come I will remember Leckie at RWB as fondly as Zdrilic at LB.

Posted by: BlueRanger One thing thats easy to forget about Bobo's season is that he scored 15 goals.... while having to press for 70-80 minutes

Pretty shit if you ask me. Spent the whole time preaching about wanting to go to the world cup and achieve something, not just make up the numbers, then bails right before the big show. If that's his mentality then good riddance.

Unless there's some underlying health concern or family issue we're unaware of, this tarnishes his reputation way more than any formation change or bad result ever could.

Dear oh dear oh DEAR...Ange is out, what a shame

Now we can move forward and not get dragged to a rating of over 100 on the world stage....

He came in to team that was qualified for a WC(directly) and he leaves a team QUALIFIED...

The BEST news this year(apart from Jackie Jackie going to Scotland to look up kilts for a good package)!

FFA, its now your call, bring someone in that can do the job, take us forward...

Socceroos playing Norway in Oslo and looks like Colombia in London in March. Good to see some solid opposition lined up.

Now to actually hire a coach.

Yes, nothing like some Euro/Sth American opposition to fine tune(or should that be RE TUNE?).

A Euro experienced coach firstly(they have more teams in the WC) who is climatically tuned into the Russian experience.

Whose that guy called HUUS?...hes no Guus.

It's important to remember that:

  1. You should never go back, they say
  2. Guus has turned to shit over the past decade
  3. His experience in Russia was a fine example of that transformation

Whether Arnie's caretaker experience is enough to disqualify him from #1 I'm not sure, but I have fond recollections of Guus's time in charge, and am close to 100% sure that him coming back will undermine that legacy.

Guus also came at a time when the Socceroos were a very different team. Blessed with experience and talent all over the park, at the time we really only needed someone with international experience to organise and motivate. Now with our current collection of lower division mediocrities, the story is very different.

Guus inherited a Farina coached bunch, very capable individuals @ club level.

The next coach inherits a team that can retain possession, pass backwards, sideways again and again and again...CANT score goals except from set pieces, cant DEFEND...now isnt that a great challenge?

The English have released their World Cup strip - traditional colours with contrasting shorts. Hopefully we can now get back to our proper strip - gold shirt, green shorts and white socks. Assuming the FFA will stand up to FIFA, of course.

There's a lot of retro happening in WC kits so hopefully we go back to the spew kit.

Yes, it's time to go back to the spew kit.

If we are to pay full reverence to the spew kit, everyone in the team will have to grow a mullet.

Van Marwijk seems likely to bring back Brad Jones

No real surprise there that someone getting regular Eredivisie time at a high profile club will be at an advantage. I was wondering when this would happen, and I think it may also mean that other veterans who have spent some time there and showed the goods may re-emerge: Wilkshire, Holman et al?

On the likely Brad Jones re-call, it would make sense that Mitch Langerak will be the one on the outer, given Vukovic is playing and doing well next door to BVM.

I'm glad he's killing it at Feyenoord, but Jones always seems nailed on for a howler for mine. But if he's willing to be a #3 behind Ryan and Vukovic, then I guess that's fine.

Langerak definitely deserves to be punted.
